Farmworker Lloyd Behrens was killed Tuesday morning during potato harvest on a farm south of North Platte.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s office said deputies were notified at 9:20 a.m. of a farm accident – a man was pinned in the mechanical portion of a farm implement.

Behrens, 57, of North Platte was trapped in a potato collecting machine -- a large wagon (barge) that hauls potatoes from the field to storage -- on the CSS Potato Farms about two miles south of Lake Maloney, He was pronounced dead on the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The accident happened on W. Watts Road, about three miles west of U.S. Highway 83. No foul play, drugs or alcohol are suspected, the sheriff’s office said.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18 in the Grand Island Cemetery. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corp and the United Veterans Honor Guard. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the family. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Coworkers said Lloyd was easy to get along with, trustworthy and well-liked.

He was born June 16, 1960 at Omaha the son of Robert and Martha (Behrens) Philbrick, and raised in Stuart. He graduated from Mead High School class of 1978 and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1979-1983.
