Jordan Biere, 22, of North Platte was sentenced Monday to a year in the Lincoln County jail for sexual assault of a teenage girl.

Lincoln County District Judge Donald Rowlands handed down the jail sentence. Biere was charged with the crime in January and convicted of attempted sexual assault of a minor.

After he gets out of jail, he will also undergo 18 months of supervision. He must also register as a sex offender for 25 years, Rowlands said.

Police were alerted Jan. 9 to the possibility that Biere was having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl. A sexual relationship was described in the summer and fall of 2016, police said.

Since then, Biere has undergone treatment and held down a job.

Defense Attorney Kent Florom noted that Biere has virtually no prior criminal history, and a photograph that reportedly incriminated him cannot be located.

Florom asked for probation.

Rowlands agreed that Biere has a minimal record – a $50 fine for having an open container in his car. A pre-sentence investigation by the Dist. 11 Probation office categorized Biere as a moderate risk to re-offend.

Rowlands declined to issue probation.

“You need to understand that over my 30 years on the bench, I have dealt harshly with sexual assaults of a minor,” he told Biere. “She was six years younger than you and clearly a minor. A 15 year-old is incapable of consenting to sexual contact.”

Without objection from prosecutors, Biere was allowed two weeks to report to jail to start serving time, so he can arrange for a work-release permit and hang onto his job.
