School BBQ competition, 'change war' set to raise moneyTell North Platte what you think

The annual Bulldog Backyard BBQ and tailgate party will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 at the North Platte High School parking lot.

The signature sponsors are Innovative Imaging, Wal-Mart D.C., First National Bank, Kwik Stop and Bill and Laura Troshynski will host the North Platte Public Schools Foundation’s ninth annual Bulldog Backyard BBQ.

BBQ teams compete for the best style in North Platte in “Best Beef,” “Best Pork,” “Best Chicken,” “Best Dessert” and new this year – “Best Anything Goes.”

All you can eat admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students/children.

The Foundation has 17 teams committed and encourages the community to come celebrate education in North Platte and support our public school’s students.

A few limited spots are available for BBQ teams.

Grilling enthusiasts can prepare food ahead of time or bring your backyard grill to the event – there is no cost to enter as a BBQ team.

For more information on the Bulldog Backyard BBQ or to reserve a grill spot, contact Jodi at the North Platte Public Schools Foundation office at 696-3325 or visit the website: www.NPPSF.org

In conjunction to and leading up to the BBQ, students in all North Platte schools will wage a “change war” to see who will be the overall champion. This activity is taking the place of the Steppin’ Out for Education and will support teacher classroom grants.

Sponsors at all levels have provided funding, prizes, and time for these activities, in addition to signature sponsors, organizer Jody Howard said.

A portion of the money raised by students at every participating school is matched by a sponsor for that school.

Matching sponsors include. Adams Bank and Trust, Lincoln County Medical Society, Wells Fargo, Swans Furniture, Innovative Imaging, Great Western Bank, Matt Pederson, Dr. Mark and Mrs. McKenzie, Dr. Shawn and Michelle Murdock, Weathercraft, Western Insurors, Great Plains Health.

Supporting Sponsors are also a big part of this fundraiser and include: North Platte Jaycees, Platte Valley Women’s Health, Hub International, Pals and Nebraskaland Bank, Pratt Dental, Bill Summers Ford. Eagle Radio, NMC-Cat, NPHS and Artic Ice.

Organizers give a big thank you to the North Platte school maintenance crew for their help before and after the event.

Funds that are raised as part of the Foundation’s Change Wars/ Bulldog Backyard BBQ event support the Educator REACH Grant program. Over $250,000 in REACH grants have been awarded to North Platte Public School educators who make a difference by pioneering innovative approaches to teaching that enhance the learning experience beyond the public school’s budget.

Each school in the district has a unique opportunity to raise record funds with the assistance of volunteer coordinators at each school.
