Omaha woman sentenced for Medicare fraudTell North Platte what you think

An Omaha woman has been ordered to pay the state of Nebraska nearly a half-million dollars for Medicaid claims that she could not document, Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson announced Aug. 31.

Chandra Wrightsell, the owner of Evol Consulting, submitted more than 1,300 claims to the Nebraska Medicaid program but did not have documents to show that the services were ever rendered.

Evol provided comprehensive counseling/therapy services and drug and alcohol counseling for individuals, couples, families and groups dealing with issues related to mental health, addiction, relationships, career and overall wellness, according to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Wrightsell pled guilty to one count of health care fraud earlier this year. She was recently sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and ordered to pay another $105,000 in criminal restitution from the fraud scheme.

Wrightsell was paid more than $146,000 on the fraudulent claims.

A Lancaster County District Court judge ordered Wrightsell to pay three times the amount of what she received from the claims, as authorized by the Nebraska False Medicaid Claims Act. The total is $439,777, Peterson said.

The Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit investigated the case, with help from the Medicaid Program Integrity unit of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Assistant Attorney General Vicki Adams represented the state in the civil case against Wrightsell.
