On Oct. 9-10, the best of Nebraska High School Class C girls’ golfers will come to North Platte for the state championship tournament. The event is expected to draw 95-100 golfers to the Lake Maloney Golf Course.
Class C is one of the highest-traveling classes, so the visitor’s bureau expects many family, friends and well-wishers to come to North Platte to see the tournament.
Coordinator Courtney Fegter said it will take a small army of volunteers to ensure that the golfers have a good experience. Volunteers are needed to monitor scoring, accompanying three golfers around the course in a cart, personally recording the hole-by-hole strokes of each player, as well as helping with the speed of play by watching tee shots and looking for lost balls.
Fegter said scoring monitors do not have to make any rules decisions. At least 30 scoring monitors will be needed each day.
Other volunteers are needed to staff the Official Score Card and Score Board crew, as well as spotters and real time scorers, who will likely use iPads. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Fegter at the North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau at 308-532-4729 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers who can work both days of the tournament will receive priority. All volunteers will receive coffee and rolls in the morning, lunch, and an official NSAA jacket. The deadline to volunteer is Sept. 23.
The NSAA Girls Class C State Championships will also be held in North Platte for the next two years: Oct. 8-9, 2018 and Oct. 14-15, 2019. The 2019 tournament will be the fifth straight girls Class C tournament in North Platte.
