Omaha World Herald Newswriter David Hendee will be in North Platte on Wednesday to discuss and sign copies of his book: Nebraska 150 years told through 93 counties.

Hendee will be at the Prairie Art Center at 5th and Jeffers at noon. And, he will also sign books from 5-7 p.m. at the Bible Supplies store in the Westfield Shopping Plaza.

At Bible Supplies, the book will be sold for a special price, owner Craig Fabick said.

At the Priaire Arts Center, his book will complement the photo winnners of the statewide "Bridges" exhibit, which is now on display at the Prairie Arts Center Gallery, courtesy of the Hidegard Center for the Arts.

Hendee's book brings the state's history to life with a fascinating profile of each of the 93 counties.

Hendee has been a reporter and editor at the Omaha World-Herald for 41 years. During that time, he has covered nearly all aspects of the state.

The 188-page coffee table book, created in conjunction with the state’s 150 anniversary, contains two pages about each county, featuring current as well as historical photos, plus interesting facts and personalities from each county.

For instance in the profile of Hooker County, Hendee tells of the ghost town of Hecla, which was once an important shipping point for Sandhills cattle.

And, he reports the development of the Dismal River and Sandhills golf courses 20 years ago that now draw golfers from around the world to one of the least populated counties in the state.
