The pile of roofing materials in the middle of path to the lake.

Visitors to an Interstate-80 lake south of Maxwell suspect that a roofer illegally dumped a load of shingles Friday night in the middle of the path that leads to the swimming area and boat launch at the lake.

The illegal pile was discovered Saturday morning by a family who wanted to wade into the cool water at the beach and boat launch.

A family member, who asked not to be identified, said they arrived with floaties and tire tubes in hand to find the pile, and it was disgusting. The pile contains roofing nails, too. They left.

The same resident commented, "I hope they do something about this. They probably won't.”

The lake is on the south side of the I-80 Maxwell interchange and is owned by the state.

The pile contained a wrapper from a new bundle of shingles that read "Old English Pewter by Tamko" -- a grey shingle.

Judging from the evidence, the old roof had a 1970s television antenna too.
