The first 24 senior citizens who sign up will get to “paint the universe” in mid-August at free classes at the Prairie Arts Center.

The arts center received a grant from Wells Fargo Bank to cover the registration fees. Patsy Smith will instruct the painting class, from 9-noon on Aug. 16 and from 1-3 p.m. on Aug. 18.

Prairie Arts Center Executive Director Holly Carlini said, "Classes typically cost $40 per person and the fee is not always attainable for some people. So this grant is really aimed at getting more people in classes to enjoy art, without the stress of paying for them.”

Award winning North Platte artist Patsy Smith will highlight the total eclipse and take students through two hours of painting the universe.

“Patsy leads a light-hearted and fun class,” Carlini said. “They're all about enjoying the medium and the experience.”

Refreshments and snacks will be included.

To sign up, contact Carlini at the PAC at 308-534-5121 or holly@prairieartscenter.org.

Advance registration is required and seats are limited.
