A Nebraska State trooper stopped a vehicle near the Maxwell exit on I-80 Thursday for having only one license plate and found the registration was expired, and they found much more.

A search of the vehicle turned up 5.5 pounds of cocaine.

Jose Marin Aranda, 33, and Juan Silva Castaneda, 34, were arrested and charged with possession of 140 grams or more of cocaine with intent to deliver.

According to court records, the car had one California license plate, but both suspects list Chicago as their hometown.

Castaneda and Aranda appeared in Lincoln County Court on Friday and said they would hire their own lawyers. Bonds were set at $500,000 for each suspect.

Five and half pounds of cocaine would be worth about $65,000 in Nebraska, according to estimates on the Narcotic News website.
