In Transit by Tiiu Swan
The best art of Nebraska is on display at the Art and Gift Gallery on the bricks downtown, including works of some North Platte artists. For the third year in a row, a North Platte artist has won Best of Show at the esteemed ANAC (Association of Nebraska Art Clubs) art show.
This year the honor went to Tiiu Swan with her oil painting In Transit.
Sue Perez of North Platte won an honorable mention this year with her color pencil drawing Ice Cream on the Beach.
Last year, Patsy Smith of North Platte won, and the year before, Sandra Meyer.
The North Platte area artists have surely made a statement with these honors.
The state of Nebraska is rather unique in that many of the art clubs scattered around the state are members of a statewide organization, which unites the clubs and allows easier communication between them, Perez said.
Each spring, member clubs meet for the statewide ANAC convention where a competitive art show is held, consisting of 300-400 entries in all mediums.
Just 25 entries are chosen the best of the best to participate in the annual traveling show. The 25 entries trek across the state, spending 2-3 weeks at art venues along the way.
The traveling show will be on display from June 30-July 19 at the Art and Gift Gallery.
“The art that is chosen to travel each year is truly the best work of some of the state's best artists, so the show does, in fact, contain art that is the 'best of the best,'” Perez said. “This show is certainly worth the effort of marking your calendars and then coming to view some of best art in the state.”
The Art and Gift gallery is on the bricks downtown at 516 N. Dewey. It is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
