A North Platte man was found with 22 pounds of pot and $20,000 in cash Wednesday morning in his home on West Sixth, after a lengthy investigation.

Micheal A. Perez, 33, was initially charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of Oxycodone and tampering with evidence. The next day, a charge of possession of codeine was added.

Perez was flushing marijuana down his toilet with police arrived with a search warrant, Police Spokesman John Deal said.

The investigation was based largely on information received through the Lincoln County Crime Stoppers program, and was gathered over several months. The warrant was served through a task force of law enforcement agencies that cooperate in drug investigations.

In addition to the marijuana, police found Oxycodone for which Perez had no prescription, Deal said.

The home is at 1118 West 6th, No. 1.

Perez has not had a felony criminal charge in Lincoln County for 11 years, according to sheriff’s records. He was arrested on charges related to meth distribution in 2006.

More recently, in April he was fined $50 plus costs for having too many pets in his home.

In court, Defense Attorney Russ Jones asked for a $50,000 bond. Prosecutor Kortnei Hoeft had no objection.

Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull noted that 22 pounds of pot is a considerable amount, but agreed to the $50,000 bond request. Perez paid the required 10% and was released Thursday afternoon.
