Tatum Montelongo lets a pitch fly Sunday against the Waverly Heat, backed up by shortstop Delanie Roeder.

The 12 and under North Platte Sensations softball team captured the championship of the Crete Diamonds Invitational June 16-18 in Crete, Neb.

The 12-year-old division consisted of 12 teams from central and eastern Nebraska.

In pool play on Saturday, the Sensations opened with a 10-0 shutout over "Tractor House" of Norris, Neb., followed by another shutout -- an 8-0 victory over the host Crete Diamonds. Sensations pitcher Tatum Montelongo tossed a perfect game.

The Sensations started the tournament Saturday night with a victory over Zion of Pickrell, Neb. In the semi-finals Sunday afternoon, the Sensations defeated the Heat from Waverly, Neb. by a score of 9-3.

The championship game Sunday evening belonged to the Sensations, who combined strong pitching and solid defense to hand the Grand Island Stingers a 5-0 shutout.

Next, the North Platte Sensations will compete June 23-25 at the ASA state tournament in Hastings, Neb.
