Thunderstorms could strike panhandle, northwestTell North Platte what you think

Severe thunderstorms could develop Monday afternoon in northwest Nebraska ahead of a cold front as it approaches the region, the National Weather Service said Monday morning.

North Platte is not expected to get rain, but east-southeast winds will gust up to 30 miles an hour, the weather service said.

Storms will develop in the panhandle during the afternoon and early evening, then spread northeast through portions of northern Nebraska during the evening and night.

The greatest tornado potential exists across the northwest Nebraska panhandle. The primary threats for the eastern panhandle and northern Sandhills are very large hail and damaging winds.
