The North Platte First National Bank Seniors had a big first inning on Sunday and never looked back in their 15-3 win over Chadron to finish the Kwik Stop Tournament at Bill Wood Field."We came out with the intensity we needed," Seniors coach Jason Pflughaupt said. "We scored early and that gave us a nice cushion. But I'm glad we didn't settle with just that and we put more on the board with a big lead."
Kade Wroot started the first inning onslaught with a two-run triple to right field. Then Austin Orr hit into a fielder's choice to sacrifice himself to score another run and clear the bases.
But the First Nationals (12-6) were able to get them loaded back up. Kaden Langemeier, Jace Rogers and Caden Comer all drew bases loaded walks on the payoff 3-2 pitch from Sean O'Brien and it was a 6-0 lead for North Platte.
Another run came home when Braiden Ruffin got a single that nipped the glove of shortstop Coy Bila and then two more scored when Wroot reached on an error by third baseman Tyler Westlake before Chadron finally got out of the first.
The Nationals scored another run in the second on an RBI single by Peyton Vieyra and then they added three more in the third to make it 13 unanswered runs.
In the top of the fourth, Chadron scored three but North Platte scored two more in the bottom half before Orr finished the complete game off in the fifth.
