A two-story outhouse, painting by Laurine Kimmel
At the Prairie Arts Center this month, featured artist Laurine Kimmel and her American Architecture series features outhouses. The collection also includes several paintings of two-story outhouses, PAC Director Holly Carlini said.
Kimmel, a graduate of Nebraska City High School, developed a love for art and painting while attending the University of Nebraska and teaching school, Carlini said.
She and husband Richard built the Kimmel Orchard in Nebraska City, while she continued to study and pursue painting, gaining widespread national recognition for her watercolor series of old outhouses entitled “American Architecture.”
Her painting, the orchard and community activities were important to Laurine Kimmel until her death in 1993.
This series, painted in the 1960s and 1970s, is on display at the PAC through the month of June.
