Two Colorado travelers were stopped Wednesday morning for driving on the shoulder of I-80 and after it was stopped, sheriff’s deputies found three pounds of pot in the car.

It started around 7 a.m., when a deputy saw an eastbound vehicle driving on the shoulder of I-80, off the passing lane of traffic, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

At the time, the deputy was in an unmarked car, so he radioed for help.

The vehicle was stopped at North Platte by a marked sheriff’s unit.

Deputies said they smelled burnt and raw marijuana coming from the car, so they asked for consent to search the vehicle, and received it.

The sheriff said the search turned up three packages of “raw marijuana” with a total weight of three pounds.

The driver was identified as Anthony Huff, 56, of Denver. The passenger was identified as Hyrum James, 37, of Aurora, Colo.

Both occupants were charged with possession of more than a pound of marijuana with intent to deliver. They were taken to the Lincoln County jail.

They are initially held without bond, pending a court appearance.
