The North Platte First National Bank Seniors ended Friday's game against Ogallala with a flurry to win 12-2."We struggled a little bit with our energy early but we picked it up," Seniors coach Jason Pflughaupt said. "We got some involvement from our bench and we got some base hits."
In the bottom of the first inning, North Platte (4-0) scored the first run when Braiden Ruffin hit a triple to left-center field to score Konner Sonneman, who drew a walk from Tyson Patrick. Trev Chase then drew another walk from Patrick and it became 3-0 when Dominic Martinez reached on a wild throw by third baseman Mitch Sutherland.
Ogallala (2-2) cut into the lead right away. They scored the first of two runs in the second inning when Lane Blackwell drew a bases loaded walk from Peyton Vieyra. Then Sutherland got an RBI infield single to make it 3-2.
The First Nationals got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning when Ruffin was walked by Patrick with the bases loaded. Then after being held scoreless, North Platte scored a run each in the fourth and fifth to make it 6-2 as Patrick tired out and was relieved by Colby Rezac.
North Platte buried Ogallala in the sixth. The first run came on a one-out single by Austin Orr. Then Bryson Krull reached on a passed ball third strike and throwing error by catcher Orey Fricke to allow another run to come in.
Gabe Vyzourek then hit a two-run single into left. Rezac was replaced by Garrett Shaw and Chase ended it by slamming a double to left that scored the last two runs needed to put the run rule into effect.
