A North Platte man was charged Tuesday with assaulting his parents at a home near A St. and Jefferson.Police spokesman John Deal said officers responded to the reported disturbance at 12:25 a.m.
Deal said officers interviewed a 60-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, who said that Eric Moreno, 27, had assaulted them both. Police did not release the victim’s names or their exact relationship to Eric, but the woman contacted the Bulletin later and said Eric is their son.
Police believe an argument ensued over a cell phone, at which time Eric allegedly shoved both victims to the floor, causing them pain but not serious injury.
Eric was arrested. In his pocket, an officer found Hydrocodone and Alprazolam pills for which he did not have a prescription. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and two counts of assault. Bond is set at $10,000.
Also, a man who would not leave his wife alone was arrested for the second time in six days on Thursday.
Police said the 23-year-old wife of David Rankins reportedly received several text messages from her husband on Wednesday, even though there is a protection order in place.
The couple spent the weekend in jail for the same trouble, after police found them in the same motel room in violation of the existing order.
David was charged with the initial violation and his wife Tiffany was charged with aiding and abetting the violation. Jail bonds were set at $25,000 each.
Tiffany bonded out of jail on Monday, and David on Tuesday.
David allegedly started texting regardless.
After police took the report, they found David in court on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. where he was facing the original charge.
A police officer arrested him on the additional charge and took him back to jail.
This time, he is held without bond.
