At 11:38 p.m. Monday night, officers went to the La Hacienda restaurant at 321 E. Sixth on the report that a man hit the back door of the business with a shovel.

When police arrived, they found Jason Broughton, 36, near the back of the building.

Police spokesman John Deal said Broughton was intoxicated and not forthcoming in telling police what he was doing on the property.

Deal said a witness saw Broughton hitting the rear door of the business with a shovel. The door was damaged, and police determined he was responsible.

Broughton was charged with attempted burglary-forced entrance and taken to the Lincoln County jail. He was initially held without bond pending his appearance in court.
