Dodson's painting among the palm trees on Orange Ave in Coronado, Calif.

The artwork of a popular, prolific former North Platte artist, Mary Beth Dodson, is prominenty displayed in her current hometown of Coronado, Calif.

Dodson’s painting of the bridge in Claude Monet's garden in Giverny, France, was chosen to decorate a main thoroughfare in Coronado, an oceanside community near San Diego on the Coronado Bay.

Dodson said two 10x12-feet banners of the painting hang on Orange Ave. – one banner near Fifth and one at a busy intersection between the Hotel del Coronado and the Boathouse at Glorietta St.

“It's like having one's name in lights,” she said. “It makes me very happy.”

Dodson lived in North Platte until 2013, then moved to California to be closer to family members during her retirement. She had long been drawn to the beauty and history of the Coronado area, she said.

She is known in the North Platte area for oils, watercolors, ink drawings, batik, handmade journals, a book of poetry, as well as articles from time to time in the Bulletin. An admirer of Monet’s art, she spent several weeks in his gardens in France in the early 1990s.

Dodson remains highly active in arts and letters. She attended the National Plein Air Convention in San Diego at the end of April, working at Carl Judson's Guerrilla Art booth.  See https://www.judsonsart.com/

And on Saturday, May 6, Dodson will read her poetry at the new San Diego library.
