A North Platte man is held on a $20,000 bond after he was arrested Wednesday afternoon on drug charges.

An officer on patrol saw Christopher Mounteer, 35, at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday near D and Cottonwood. Police spokesman John Deal said Mounteer pulled up in a car with another man and parked there. Mounteer was wanted for failure to appear on a previous charge.

When the two men got out of the car, the officer approached and Mounteer took off running.

Deal said the officer chased Mounteer through some residential yards for about a block, and saw him toss items out of his pockets on the ground during the chase.

Deal said Mounteer finally stopped, wrapped his arms around a pole and refused to heed commands. He was forcibly removed from the pole and placed under arrest.

He also had several empty plastic “zip lock type” bags in his possession, Deal said.

In retracing Mounteer’s steps, an eyeglass case was found, containing a pipe commonly used to smoke meth, as well as several baggies with trace residue that appeared to be meth, according to field tests, Deal said.

Mounteer was charged with possession of meth and resisting arrest, a felony charge based on a prior conviction.
