What? Is it?

The Platter Painters and the North Platte Art Guild spring art show opened Wednesday downtown at the Art and Gift Gallery.

The works of merit winners (below) advance to the annual ANAC (Association of Nebraska Art Clubs) conference. From 300 plus entries in that show, just 26 will be chosen for the ANAC traveling show in 2018.

North Platte artists have had a great deal of success in the annual ANAC competition, winning the best of show for two straight years -- Patsy Smith in 2016 and Sandra Meyer in 2015.

This annual North Platte art show is open through April 30 at the Art and Gift Gallery, 516 N. Dewey on the bricks. Years of effort by the members of the clubs are on display, organizers said.

The Platter Painters club is the oldest art club in North Platte. It is now in its 64th year.

The annual ANAC conference June 7-10 has workshops, meetings and a competition of the best of each art club across the state.

The winners of the Platter Painters Spring Show:

Best of Show -- “Woven Tapestry” -- Patsy Smith (water media)

Award of Excellence –“Landscape” – Wava Best (porcelain)

Honorable Mention -- “Intransit” -- Tiiu Swan (oil)

Merit award -- “A Menagerie” -- Sharon Skinner (water media)

Merit award -- “Spring” -- Wava Best (pastel)

Those works qualified for the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs state competition in June.

In addition, a work by Judy Herbst Brown also qualified. The work is titled “What? Is It?” It is water media.
