Humanities Nebraska recently elected four members to its council and Foundation boards of directors.

The Nebraska Humanities Council board elected two new members, as did the Nebraska Foundation for the Humanities.

Glenn Van Velson of North Platte was elected to the foundation: Van Velson is an attorney in private practice.

He currently sits on the boards of the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation, where he was the past president; as well as the North Platte Opportunity Center and the Great Plains Health Care Foundation.

Previously, Van Velson was the chairman of the Mid Plains United Way board, and a board member for the Nebraska Public Radio Foundation, the Community Domestic Violence Intervention Program, Inc, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Nebraska District and the North Platte Community Playhouse.

Humanities Nebraska aims to inspire and enrich personal and public life by delivering opportunities to engage thoughtfully with history and culture.

These opportunities include grants for humanities-related projects accessible to the public throughout the state, Speakers Bureau programs to schools and community groups, Prime Time Family Reading Time, Chautauqua, touring exhibits from the Smithsonian, and many others.

Humanities Nebraska is a non-profit organization supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, the Nebraska legislature, and private donors.
