The North Platte High School boys' and girls' soccer teams finished in fourth place at the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference tournament after they lost both of their games on Saturday.The Lady Bulldogs (5-3) began the day with a 1-0 shootout loss to Norfolk in the semifinals at Bauer Field.
NPHS was in prime position to win the shootout against the Panthers (8-2) after Norfolk had missed three straight shots. But Sidney Brinker and Emily Ady were both stopped by goalie Gabby Ruth to force the shootout past the mandatory five shooters.
Norfolk's sixth shooter, Alex Ruth, then made her shot against Bulldog goalie Leslie Borges and on the next shot, Callie Haneborg missed the goal wide left to send the Panthers into the championship game, where they beat Hastings on another shootout.
In the third place game at Madison Middle School, North Platte fell 3-2 to Columbus.
The NPHS boys (5-3) lost their semifinal game to Columbus 3-0 at Bauer Field.
The game against the Discoverers (6-3) was scoreless for most of the way. But as the game wore on, Columbus had the ball more often and they kept pushing toward the Bulldogs' goal. With 12 minutes left, Landon Brabec crossed the ball to Luis Ruiz to break the tie.
Columbus scored with six minutes left to ice the game before adding another for good measure in the final minutes.
The Dawgs then lost the third place game to Lexington 1-0 at Madison Middle School.
In the boys' final, Kearney defeated Columbus.
