The University of Nebraska Extension will host a presentation about ecological-based farming from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, April 14 at the West Central Research & Extension Center in North Platte.

This should be of interest to those working in agriculture who have interests in pest management and conservation practices, organizers say.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jon Lundgren from the ECDYSIS Foundation and Blue Dasher Farm.

Lundgren focuses on the ecological risk of pest management and developing long-term solutions for sustainable food systems.

His ecological research focuses heavily on conserving healthy biological communities within agroecosystems by reducing disturbance and increasing biodiversity within cropland.

Additional information will be presented by UNL researchers Drs. Julie Peterson and Tony Adesemoye.

The topics include:

• Pest Control Using Beneficial Insects in Nebraska by Dr. Julie Peterson (UNL).

• Biological Management of Crop Diseases by Dr. Tony Adesemoye (UNL).

• A panel discussion and question and answer session with presenters, farmers and on-farm conservation groups.

Lundgren is an agroecologist, the director of the ECDYSIS Foundation, and the chief executive officer of Blue Dasher Farm in South Dakota.
