The University of Nebraska has spent $754,661 since 2012, just to lobby state lawmakers. That ranks sixth for spending among lobbying groups, according to a report from Common Cause Nebraska, a government watchdog organization.
In 2016, NU lobbyists spent about $38,000 entertaining state officials and about $12,500 on event tickets, the report said.
One such gift is a pair of Husker football season tickets valued at $798, tickets that are offered to all 49 state senators.
Twelve senators accepted season tickets for the 2016 season.
Jack Gould, the author of the annual lobbying report, said before Common Cause started reporting on tickets more than 10 years ago, nearly all senators would accept the gift.
In addition to football, 11 senators accepted University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey tickets, six senators accepted UNL basketball tickets, and 11 senators plus 88 staff members accepted tickets to the Husker football spring game, according to the report.
