The Lincoln County Country Bluegrass Festival will be held April 27-29 at the fairgrounds with a new feature this year -- a band scramble.

The festival features three days of the nation’s best bluegrass musicians, including such stars as The Spinney Brothers, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Little Roy and Lizzie and Phil Steinmetz.

This year, amateur and semi-professional musicians who attend will have a chance to perform with the stars too, in a band scramble.

Musicians can sign up for the scramble. The names will be mixed in a hat and drawn to scramble up new bands of 3-4 members each.

New bands will have Friday evening and early Saturday morning to put together two songs to perform in the contest for prize money. They also must come up with a name for their group.

Sign up as an instrumentalist on bass, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and/or dobro; or as a vocalist.

“It’s a good way to share the love for music, learn from others and have fun,” organizer Courtney Ewald said.

As is the case each year, an annual showcase competition for up-and-coming bands will also be held. Musicians can enter both events if they have a wristband.

To register for either event, email Ewald at npbluegrassfestival@yahoo.com. You can also sign up on the grounds for the band scramble.

A three-day pass to the festival is $55. Children 12 & under are admitted at no charge.

Other headliners this year are Larry Efaw and the Bluegrass Mountaineers, the Finley River Boys, the Baker Family, the Kathy Kallick Band and Back Country.
