SkillsUSA to open in Grand IslandTell North Platte what you think

More than 1,500 students from across the state will converge in Grand Island March 31 for the state championships in SkillsUSA.

The competition is a partnership of schools and industry.

SkillsUSA serves middle school, high school and college students to prepare them for technical, skilled and service careers. The competition will be held at the Heartland Events Center and Fonner Park.

SkillsUSA was founded as Vocational Industrial Clubs of America in 1965. The name changed in 2004.

Students compete in more than 100 areas of career and technical education-ranging from architectural drafting, welding, manufacturing, automotive to culinary arts, healthcare, technical business and presentations.

Since 1965, the organization has served more than 12.2 million members.
