A North Platte man already facing felony charges of burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm had another felony charge added to his tab. A police spokesperson reported Donald Bristol, 23, 2314 W. Sixteenth, was arrested March 7 and charged with felony tampering with a witness. Lt. Mike Swain of the North Platte Police Department said Bristol allegedly made threatening phone calls to a witness to his other alleged crimes. Swain the witness lives in Kansas and that police would not provide many details about them out of consideration. Bristol’s new charge came three months to the day after he was cited for the burglary and firearms offense. The police believe Bristol is responsible for two crimes committed in November. On Nov. 1, a residence in Bristol’s neighborhood had three 3-D archery targets stolen from the yard. On Nov. 9, that same residence’s garage was broken into. The spokesperson said six tree stands and three more targets were stolen. According to police the case remained dormant until January, when a tip came in that Bristol was in possession of some of the stolen property. A search conducted at Bristol’s residence turned up four of the six missing tree stands. The spokesperson said Bristol was found to be in possession of a pump action shotgun. They also said that the firearm had a black-powder barrel on it. “It’s the first of its kind that I’ve ever seen,” the spokesperson said. The black-powder barrel could easily be removed and replaced with a 12-gauge barrel, the spokesperson said. Bristol has been a convicted felon for less than a year, the spokesperson reported. His previous conviction involved a stolen firearm, they added. The burglary and firearms charges are class-three felonies according to the spokesperson. Both carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $25,000 fine, or both. Tampering with a witness is a class-four felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
