Justin Chilcott, 30, appeared before Judge John Murphy answering to charges stemming from his January arrest. He will next appear in court July 20.

A Police spokesperson said then that Chilcott and William Reed, 19, were arrested and charged with theft and possession of methamphetamine ingredients after police responded to a noise complaint at 1721 W. Thirteenth.

The responding officer noticed what he determined to be aluminum railroad crossing equipment, the spokesperson stated. While police were securing a search warrant, they received a tip that the pair had been stealing scrap metal around town and attempting to sell it.

The proceeds from Chilcott and Reed’s scrap metal venture went to their meth-making operation, the tipster related.

The search of the home turned up lamp fuel, drain cleaner, and medications commonly used in the manufacture of meth. The ingredients were discovered under a bed, the spokesperson said.

The theft charge is a class-two felony for Chilcott, who has prior convictions. It carries a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.

Reed’s theft charge is a class-three felony, punishable by up to 20 years, a $25,000 fine, or both.

Both men are also charged with possessing methamphetamine ingredients, a class-four felony. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both. The spokesperson said that Chilcott faces an additional charge for possessing a prescription drug without a prescription.

Chilcott drew notoriety, and prison time, in 2008 due to his activities with his then girlfriend Alyssa Diebert. The duo attempted to cook meth in their home, causing a fire. They were forced to flee the residence with two children.

Chilcott received a two to six year prison sentence.
