The State Patrol Troop D SWAT team was called into action Feb. 1 in response to an incident in Lexington. Troop D Cpt. Jim Parish said a call came in around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning, reporting a stand-off and asking for tactical assistance. The stand-off involved an incident in a residence, Parish said. An altercation broke out between a man, Daryl Eskridge, and woman. When another man tried to step between the arguing pair, Eskridge allegedly shot him in the stomach, Parish said. The SWAT responded, concerned that there was a hostage situation. Once the team was in place, however, Parish said they learned there was not a hostage. After the shooting, Eskridge retreated upstairs in the house. The others in the house, including the wounded man, were removed from the house, Parish said. “Even though there was not a hostage situation, there was still an armed suspect that shot someone,” Parish said. The house was surrounded and lit with floodlights, he said. One of the SWAT members got on a megaphone and ordered Eskridge to come out with his hands up. He complied, and was arrested by Lexington police for attempted second-degree murder. Parish said when authorities entered the house they found a pistol with the hammer cocked, but the magazine had been removed. He said the Lexington Police Department took charge of the investigation.
