William R. Howard Jr., 32, 1031 S. Tabor, was picked up after police received a report of physical violence against a child, according to Sgt. Steve Reeves of the North Platte Police Department.

Reeves said the report came in Jan. 22. When officers investigated, they also discovered evidence of drug use around the child, Reeves stated.

The class-one misdemeanor charge stemmed from both the physical violence and the drug use, Reeves said.

Howard is the child’s mother’s boyfriend, according to police.

Howard faces a maximum of one year in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.
